John Dumelo Ghanaian Actor Donates To Ebola Victims In Sierra Leone

Back in February 2013, the actor was in Cameroon where he donated books and pencils to several primary schools in the Bonadikombo rural division in the South West Region.

Ghanaian movie star John Dumelo is giving back to Ebolavictims in Sierra Leone, one of the countries in Africa the deadly disease massively affected.

The actor donated some school and health items while visiting the Sierra Leone community in Maryland, USA Monday morning.

Man bags 3 months for stealing MTN generator battery

An Enugu Magistrates’ Court on Monday sentenced one Friday Eze, 24, of Enugu North Local Government Area to three months imprisonment for stealing an MTN generator battery.

In her judgment, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs  Ifeoma Oruruo, said the convict understood the charge read to him and pleaded guilty to the one count charge brought against him.

Oruruo said that the confession made by the convict at the Central Police Station, Enugu, confirmed that he committed the offence as he equally pleaded for leniency.

According to her, the offence ordinarily attracts 14 years imprisonment “but because you pleaded guilty and asked for leniency, there must be a balanced justice while condemning the act”.

The magistrate, therefore, sentenced the accused to three months imprisonment with an option to pay the sum of N30, 000.

The police prosecutor, ASP Kwe-Kwe Ajor, had earlier told the court that the matter was reported to the Central Police Station on July 27, 2014 by an official of the MTN, Kingsley Okafor.

Ajor said that the convict broke into the MTN mast at Udi, near Enugu, and stole the generator battery at about three a.m.in the morning of the fateful day.

He said that when the convict was arrested, he pleaded with the police, saying that it was first time of stealing. (NAN)

56 die in South Sudan road crash

A medical director in Juba Hospital confirmed on Monday that more than 56 people were killed in a traffic accident in South Sudan.

He said, on condition of anonymity, that the accident occurred when a minibus collided with a truck on a road linking South Sudan with Uganda.

“The victims could be more, but those who were brought to the hospital are 56,” he said.

He said traffic has been heavy along roads linking South Sudan with its neighboring countries since last September when violence erupted between government troops and fighters loyal to former South Sudanese Vice-President Riek Machar.

The conflict and the deteriorating humanitarian conditions have forced thousands of Southern Sudanese to flee to Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda.

Spanish embassy official found dead in Sudan

Police in Sudan say a Spanish embassy official has been found stabbed to death in the capital, Khartoum.

The 61-year-old, who has not been named, was the head of the visa section at the embassy, and had been living in Sudan for three years.

He was found dead at his home in Khartoum’s eastern district of Garden City in the early hours of Monday, officials said.

The police and Sudan’s foreign ministry said an investigation was under way.

A diplomatic source in Spain confirmed the death, according to Reuters news agency.

The motive behind the attack was not immediately clear.

A Russian official and his wife were wounded in a stabbing outside the Russian embassy in Khartoum in January.

However, it is relatively uncommon for consular staff to be targeted in Sudan
