Ebola: Red Cross trains personnel, journalists on Ebola prevention

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, West Coast zone, is training its communication officers and selected journalists on Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) prevention in the region.
Mr Nwakpa Nwakpa, Head of Communication, Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), said  in Dakar ON Sunday that the training would address issues on improving measures of preventing Ebola virus.
Nwakpa said that the forum would acquaint participants on the measures put in place by other West African countries to disseminate information on Ebola Virus Disease.
According to him, the training will ensure that EVD is curtailed in Africa, Nigeria in particular, because what people need now is correct information on preventive measures.
“The Red Cross National Societies in West Africa have played a vital role in curtailing the spread and managing victims of` the dreaded disease.
“The forum will afford the participants the opportunity to be more focused in the activities of the Red Cross volunteers in the field.
“NRCS has trained over 150 volunteers on contact tracing, case management, information dissemination as well as send key messages on EVD to all her branches in the 36 states, Abuja inclusive,’’ Nwakpa said.
Nwakpa, therefore, advised that people should not be afraid but take every precautionary measures including personal hygiene seriously.
“It is important that symptoms of EVD, which maybe fever, body weakness, joint pains, headache, vomiting, diarrhoea, among others, are reported to medical facilities early enough for proper attention,’’ he added.
