Military refutes terrorists arrest reports

Abuja - The military has denied any arrests of terrorists by any foreign forces in the ongoing efforts to rescue the girls abducted in Chibok.

This is according toa press statement by the Director of Defense Information, Maj-Gen. Chris Olukolade.

“There has been no arrest or operation by any foreign ally in theefforts to rescue the abducted girls or even the entire ongoing counter-terrorists’ campaign in Nigeria as reporte. The Nigerian military officers are in the process of briefing the allied personnel," he said.

The Director of Defense Information said the public would be duly briefed on the collaboration as the need arose.

Meanwhile, the Defense Headquarters also faulted Amnesty International’s Report on Chibok.

It said the allegation by Amnesty International that the military authority was informed of the impending attack but failed to nip it in the bud was "very unfortunate and untrue."

“Much as the Nigerian military appreciates the global concern and show of solidarity with the countr, falsehood should not be introduced as a means of assessing the situation.

"It has to be categorically stated that the claims by Amnesty International in its report that security forces had advance warning about the abduction of students of Government Secondary School Chibok, Borno State by terrorists is unfounded."

The military said  contrary to the organisation’s claims, troops in Maiduguri did not receive four hours forewarning about the attacks.

"Rather, they received information of an ongoing attack on Chibok community from troops on patrol who on noting the attack engaged the terrorists and called for more reinforcement to contain them,” the Defense Headquarters stated.
